[In the Neitherlands…]
[The Neitherlands were quiet. A city built by persons unknown, it had the look of a place that didn’t necessarily look abandoned but rather lived in. The buildings, according to Alice’s friend Penny, were filled with books, though she’d never seen them for herself to confirm it.
She had travelled there on her own. Had any of her friends known this, she was sure they would be upset with her. But time was different in the Neitherlands. She could spend hours, days even, wandering around and no time would have passed back home. Which was good for Alice because she needed time away from everyone. Quentin, Janet (especially Janet), even Eliot.
The city was set up in a grid pattern and most of the squares were taken up by different fountains - some with the top plugged up with a copper cover to keep things out or in. Many of the squares were taken up by tall marble buildings. There was no way into the buildings according to Alice’s friend Penny, but he said they were filled with books. Just shelves and shelves of books.
But what Alice was more interested in was whether or not one of these fountains lead somewhere better than the life she had in New York.]
